POSITION SUMMARY:

 

As part of the teaching assignment, teaches one or more classes in the field of music education to students and assists in other school programs as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – Valid Mississippi Teaching License with appropriate endorsements

 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Teaches skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music, and in instrumental music (band, instrumental ensemble), and or choral music (chorus, choir or choral ensemble) to students. 

 

  1. Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  2. Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt curriculum to the needs of each student.  Encourages students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
  3. Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
  4. Maintains school owned music, robes, uniforms, musical instruments and equipment in order to prevent loss of abuse.  Make minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
  5. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide orderly, productive environment during individual practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances
  6. Evaluate each student’s musical growth and performance, assessing each student’s contribution to the performance of the group
  7. Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community.
  8. Maintains professional competence through participation in professional development
  9. Provides a suitable learning environment conducive to the development of the pupil’s concept of self and positive attitudes toward learning
  10. Cooperates with school administration in proving musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.
  11. Supervise students in out of classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  12. Maintains satisfactory attendance, as defined in District policy and regulations
