The Vocational Center is located on the Natchez Middle School campus, students are bused from the High School to attend classes at the Vocational Center. We are part of the NASD.

 

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

A Health Science instructor is responsible for instruction and guiding students in the field of health science.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

A Health Science teacher is responsible for instructing and guiding students in the field of health science.  They play a vital role in educating students about various aspects of health.

 

The first year, (core) of the secondary Health Sciences program introduces students to the theory and practical applications of tasks related to employment in the field of health science.  Students will cover topics such as safety in the workplace, infection control, health care systems, and the vital organs of the human body. This course offers insight into careers in health care as well as educational requirements and the professional, legal, and ethical responsibilities involved.

 

Second Year, Healthcare and Clinical Services course helps the student establish insight in the healthcare field. Students will be exposed to the theory and applied tasks related to careers within health care.  This course covers topics such as human growth and development, health informatics, information technology, and therapeutic and rehabilitative services.  Other topics include medical and emergency services, mental health, and pharmacological and nursing services. Student may participate in shadowing experiences in selected health-care facilities.  Upon completion of this advanced course, students will be trained to work as entry-level assistants in various health occupations and will be certified in CPR at the health- care provider level. 

 

MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES    

 

Follow curriculum and implement a comprehensive health science lesson that aligns with state and National standards. Prepare lesson plans to teach topics as above.

Deliver engaging and interactive lessons to students, utilizing various teaching strategies and techniques.

Plan and conduct laboratory activities to provide students with hands on experience in health science, ensure the proper use of laboratory equipment and maintain a safe and organized learning environment.

Administer assessments to evaluate students’ understanding of health science concepts.  Provide timely feedback and grades to students and parents/guardians’, identifying areas for improvement and offering support.

Provide individualized instruction to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring all students have equal opportunities to succeed. Collaborate with special education teacher, counselors, and other support staff.

Provide career Exploration, Field trips, and Guest speakers, from the healthcare industry to enhance students understanding of real-world applications of health science concepts.  Maintain and establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and active participation.

To conduct meetings with stakeholders as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education:

Nursing License from the state of Mississippi, and teaching endorsement from Mississippi Department of Education. At least one year of nursing experience, med-surg and or ICU

Experience:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and motivate students.
