JOB DESCRIPTION

REPORTS TO: Director of Exceptional Services                                  SALARY SCHEDULE: Contract

FLSA STATUS: Exempt                                                                             TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 220 days

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under direction provides psychological services, conducts formal psychological evaluation of students for program planning, educational placement, or referral to available resources; participates in design and implementation of early childhood model, provides program consultation for school staff, provides observation, counseling, and other therapeutic interventions, provides in-service training in psychological skills

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – Master in psychology; Valid Mississippi Teaching license with school psychologist endorsement

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Participates in design and implementation of program model and refinement of strategies and techniques.

2. Receives and reviews available developmental information from school and outside resources about student behavior(s) and selects appropriate psychological interventions.

3. Interprets and synthesizes information obtained from psychological interventions in order to prepare a written report.

4. Uses information obtained from the psychological evaluation to develop written recommendations.

5. Makes appropriate referral to the resources available to facilitate education/treatment goals recommended for student(s) by the psychologist.

6. Meets with teachers to assist in developing individual instructional/or management strategies for students.

7. Coordinates screening for model program. Observes students in the classroom for diagnostic purposes.

8. Helps a local school staff to plan to better meet the needs of their children with mild social/emotional problems.

9. Consults with curriculum personnel, administrators, and teachers in order to help adapt curriculum and classroom practices to pupils with any special needs.

10. Administers scores and interprets psychological tests of intelligence, personality, achievement, and developmental maturity.

11. Interviews students, parents, school personnel, and other sources of information on individual students.

12. Provides crisis intervention to school-based personnel.

13. Provides consultation to parents regarding child development and behavior management. Institutes training sessions in group techniques for teachers.
