POSITION SUMMARY:

The Head Coach of the Track Program will be responsible for all duties associated with the program which include: supervising the duties of assistant coach, supervising the training and preparation of the track teams (including cross country and indoor track), fostering relationships with staff and student athletes, sufficiently preparing the track and field program for an advanced level of competition, and building an environment conducive to positively impacting the lives of student athletes in NASD.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification. Hold a valid Mississippi Teaching License with appropriate endorsements. 

 

Required:  Three to five (3-5) years (preferrably) successful high school coaching experience or higher;  and/or college playing experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.     Follows all Athletics policies and procedures of the district and the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA).

2.     Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.

3.     Assigns duties (written) to assistant coach under his/her jurisdiction; including pre-season practice sessions; revises duties (in writing) as           needed to meet program needs.

4.     Prepare all student-athletes for an advanced level of competition.

5.     Formulates and nurtures relationships with collegiate coaches for the exposure of the program; assists student-athletes in preparing film and marketing themselves for post-high school track program opportunities.

6.     Instructs and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in track.

7.    Coordinates and conducts the overall practice schedules and games for the track; provide weekly practice schedules, including pre-season schedules, to athletic director weekly.

8.     Develops appropriate preseason and postseason training programs.

9.    Ensures that all equipment and uniforms are properly cleaned, stored and maintained.

10.   Perform preseason and postseason inventories.

11.   Plan and develop game responsibilities. (i.e., hotel reservations, transportation, meals, asst. coach’s responsibilities etc.)

12.   Makes recommendations regarding the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies.

12.   Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner.  (Insurance, attendance, medical, etc.)

14.   Ensures that all student athletes are eligible from the beginning to the end of the season; Communicate with parents regarding academic eligibility every three weeks.

15.   Enforces discipline policies, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles.

16.   Provides efficient supervision of students at all times (both in and out of district).

17.   Ensures that facilities are prepared to a high standard of expectation for each competition.

18.   Ensures that the facility is properly secured and alarmed before leaving games and practices.

19.   Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times

20.   Completes district injury report for any student injured within 24 hours even if student athlete does not see physician.

21.   Ensures that all volunteers are approved by Human Resources.

22.   Submits athlete rosters to the athletic director before the first practice.

23.   Consults with athletic director regarding any off-season training programs.

24.   Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, fellow coaches, and officials and resolves conflict in a professional manner;     establish a working relationship with booster club; assign staff members to attend all booster club meetings.

25.   Acts as a liaison person in relating the district's track program to the staff, administration, general public, and local news media.

26.   Organizes and conducts an extensive summer training program.

27.   Trains and evaluates assistant coach and students.

28.   Maintains professional growth through attendance of coaching clinics, conferences and post graduate study.

29.   Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the principal, athletic director, and superintendent may assign.

30.   Prepares a three-year strategic plan to improve the overall program and student performance.
