POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting the band director with the primary program building including, planning, directing, recruiting, managing, conditioning, and training Band Program for the 7th - 12th grade.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION. Valid Mississippi Teaching License with appropriate endorsements.  Three years experience assisting or participating in a college or high school Band Program.

 

Desired/Preferred:  Five years experience assisting or participating in a college or high school Band Program.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Follows all Athletics policies and procedures of the District and the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA).
  2. Instructs and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in Band.
  3. Assists with the coordination and conduction of the practice schedules and games for the Band Program.
  4. Assists with the development of appropriate training programs.
  5. Assists with ensuring that all equipment and uniforms are properly cleaned, stored and maintained.
  6. Assists with preseason and postseason inventories.
  7. Assists the band director with plannig and develoing performance responsibilities. (i.e., hotel reservations, transportation, meals, etc.)
  8. Assists the band director with recommendations regarding the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies.
  9. Assists the band director with maintaining necessary records and completion of required paperwork in a specified time and manner.  (Insurance, attendance, medical, etc.)
  10. Assists the band direcor with ensuring that all student athletes are eligible from the beginning to the end of the season.
  11. Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
  12. Assists the band director with ensuring that students are supervised at all times (both in and out of District).
  13. Make sure that the facility is properly secured and alarmed before leaving performances and practices.
  14. Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times
  15. Completes District injury report for any student injured within 24 hours even if student athlete does not see physician.
  16. Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, fellow directors/coaches, and officials and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  17. Assists the band director with maintaining and securing confidential records and inquiries.
  18. Assists with the summer Band Program.
  19. Maintains professional growth through attendance of band clinics, conferences and post graduate study.
  20. Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the Band Director, Principal, or Superintendent may assign.
